A Short Note on Transformers: Definition and Types

You must be confused about transformers and stabilizers. While transformers change the AC voltage whenever necessary, the functions of industrial stabilizers are just the opposite. They do not change the voltage. Instead, they stabilize the voltage in a system. This blog aims to give you a short overview of transformers. You will learn about the definition and types of transformers.

Definition

Transformers are pieces of equipment used to transmit electric electricity. It uses AC for the transmission of electricity. It frequently alters the supply voltage without altering the AC frequency between circuits. Fundamental principles of mutual induction and electromagnetic induction underlie a transformer's operation.

Types

Unlike industrial stabilizers, transformers are classified based on voltage levels, core materials, and usage. Here, we will discuss the first group.

Isolation Transformer

Unlike other transformers, isolation transformers do not alter voltage levels. A transformer used for isolation always has the same secondary and primary voltages. This is because the winding ratio always equals 1. In an isolation transformer, this indicates that both windings have the same number of turns.
Isolation transformers in India are a safety measure and reduce noise transfer from the primary to the secondary or vice versa.

Step-Up Transformer

This type of transformer is used to increase the low voltage of the primary level to the required high secondary voltage to balance the current flow. The transformer follows the winding ratio of the primary point and secondary point. For a functional result, the winding ratio of two points must be less than 1. This indicates the number of turns in the primary windings is less than that of the secondary windings.

Step-Down Transformer

A step-down transformer is precisely the opposite of a step-up transformer. It changes the primary voltage level to a lower limit to match the low level of the secondary voltage. Here, the two-winding ratio has to be greater than 1. This indicates that the number of turns in the primary winding is more than that of the secondary windings.

Conclusion

This was a short discussion of transformers and their types based on voltage level. If you want to purchase isolation transformers in India, please consider a reputed and trustworthy brand. You must not invest your money without checking all the features of a transformer required to fulfill your requirements.
